I'm a fairly novice runner, really a cyclist that started trail running. I was running in either barefoot shoes (merrell trail gloves) for short runs or some heavy trail shoes (adidas thrashers) for longer sessions. The kinvaras nicely do the duty of both sets of shoes.Pros:Very lightweightEnough padding for comfort on longer runsMinimal drop, 4mmCons:Sizing. They fit snug, you should probably go a half size up from your normal shoe. I did, but even then the toe box is pretty narrow if you've got wider feet like I do. If in doubt, try them on in a store.Other than the sizing it's hard to find too much fault. They're a great all purpose shoe that will perform well on trails, road, short or long. They're now my only running shoe.

I have tried several trail shoes looking for one that was lightweight, flexible, and would hug whatever trail surface I am on. Well I finally did with this shoe. I love minimalist shoes, but the rocky terrain I run on would be much too painful with small, median, and large pointed rocks to step on. I went on a 61/2 mile trail run on this very technical terrain I mentioned and was able to go over all surfaces with no problem. Even when I stepped on the pointed rocks, I could feel them, but was able to push off without pain. The rubber under sole grips well in dirt and different rocks small to bolder size. They have just the right size and spaced groves to have an even feel and not allow small rocks to get caught in between. There is a very slight heel rise compared to the forefoot like many minimalist shoes and is as light weight as most street running shoes. The fit is very much like the Saucony Kinvara 3 with a slightly thinner sole, lower heel rise, and a tougher more durable under sole, but every bit as light. I have many more trails to try and a mud obstacle run to really test it on.Pros: Lightweight, flexible, holds foot well, great surface grip, minimalist feelCons: would prefer the front of shoe to have slightly more room to give toes to have better spacing and I have a narrow size 13 foot.

Went from NB 101 to these, world of difference in comfort and material quality. Runs half size small, but won't go back to anything else.
