4Dangerous color
By Tim
This is my third pair of the PureGrit shoes. In the last 6mos I have worn them for a Spartan Beast, a Tough Mudder, and done all my trail running in them for training. They fit well, take a beating (on my feet and in the washing machine) and grip like mad. My wife recently got me a pair of the green with the cool green soles to wear for a Spartan sprint in AZ, I almost broke my neck the first time I wore them out. It seems that the colored soles are VERY slick with any moisture, this has not been a problem with my black/black soled pairs. I will still keep these, but I will not be using them in any events or any runs on slick trails. Buy the shoe, but stick (no pun) with basic black!!

5My favorite running shoe
By Michael W. Morris
I've ran in asics, nike, and even pearl izumi shoes over the past few years, but these are my favorite. This is the first minimalist shoe that I've tried and I'm hooked. Several years ago, I started having problems with shin splints and ankle and knee pain. After some research, I learned that my heel strike and cushioned shoes might be contributing to the problem. I'm a little on the heavy side to run at 205 pounds, but this shoe has allowed me to keep running. I've had no problems with shin splints and these shoes fit so good that I don't even realize I'm wearing them. They simply fit perfect for me. I do agree with other reviewers that they are a little slippery when wet. And they breathe great, so they aren't the best for cold weather running. Out of all the pure series, I liked these the best. I plan on replacing my pair with another in the spring.

2Buyer Beware
By Rob Ferrera
Do not buy anything from Brooks off of Amazon unless you know 100% that the product will fit. You will have to pay to return it. Nowhere on their storefront does it say what their return policy is. Yet if you tell them this, they will tell you that they are acting within their policy to charge the customer for the return. They charge you shipping and make you pay to return it if it doesn't work out. Now if you buy from Brooks directly, anything over 75 dollars is free shipping and returns. Curious why they can't extend this same courtesy to their Amazon customers. I complained about this to Brooks and they were not very responsive to helping me out and ultimately unwilling to be help me with a resolution. They believe it is within their policy to not have to state what their return policy is. I complained to Amazon and Amazon made it right by giving me credit and helping out with an A to Z claim.Buyer Beware! You are better off going to Zappos! They don't hide their shipping and return policy! I will not buy from Brooks again.

5pretty much super awesome
By sifc33
Got these in the other day, and they work AWESOME!! I'm currently deployed and I run on a huge dirt/rocky track that encompasses my base, and they are killer. I think they are a wonderful transition running shoe for us who have never gone with a "barefoot" shoe before. Yes, there is an arch support in the middle, but it doesn't bother me a bit, and I'm glad I have it there actually. The switch from conventional shoes, to this one, has been minimal, largely because the type of day-to-day shoes I wear are "European" style, low-flat soles. I think my next purchase will be the trail glove, but till then these are awesome.

2Argh, the arches
By jhmoore
First off: I am a huge fan of the Trail Gloves. I loved my first pair so much I bought another. Not because they wore out or anything, but just because I wanted a pair to get muddy and another pair to keep clean(ish). I've convinced five or six of my friends to purchase pairs of their own. I love love love me some Trail Glove. So, naturally I was ecstatic to find out about the Road Gloves. A version of the Trail Glove that I love, optimized for the road? Yes sir, sign me up, sight unseen, immediately. They arrived today -- I tried them on and immediately got very confused. There appeared to be some kind of hard lump situated underneath my arch. I took the shoes off and put them back on again. The lump was still there. I went and got my (week-old) pair of Trail Gloves to compare. I even put one Road Glove on one foot and one Trail Glove on the other foot, and then did the same with the opposite feet. The difference is honestly ASTOUNDING. The Trail Glove feels like a crazy ninja ballet slipper. The Road Glove feels like . . . a heavier slipper with a stiff awkward lump in the middle.Merrell dudes and ladies, if you're reading this, seriously please try the following:A.) Take a brand new pair of Trail Gloves and bend them in half. I.e. make the top of the toe touch the back of the heel. (This is what I show off to my friends while shopping when I am trying to get them to buy a pair of your shoes. Awesome selling trick.)B.) Now try the same with a brand new pair of Road Gloves. The Trail Gloves roll right up like a burrito. The Road Gloves, well, don't.Now to be fair -- if I hadn't spent the past few years running in various minimalist footwear, the Road Gloves would probably be blowing my mind right now. They'd probably still be great. Maybe they're intended to be a 'transition' shoe, like the Saucony Kinvara or Nike Free or something. I don't know. What I DO know, however, is that I'm going to be returning these (after less than an hour owning them), and that I'm going to be buying more Trail Gloves. To sum up: if you like the Trail Gloves, don't get these shoes. If you wished the Trail Gloves were stiffer, heavier, and had arch support, get these shoes.

4The nearly no shoe
By Eponymous
Really like this shoe for minimalist running shoes. Its a comfortable fit with a good toe box and nice all round fit. Its zero drop and scrunches right around on its self just as it should. I'm splitting hairs over the lacing as its just what you would get on most shoes so you will likely be totally fine with it however, I find the lacing could be a little improved. I spent a lot of time researching this shoe and the run in this shoe is really good. I think its a great shoe. if your looking to transition into barefoot or take up minimalist running this is a great choice. in colder weather I do my weekly 48k's in these shoes and I'm very satisfied with the performance. I really prefer these over the Trail glove as I like the _much_ better ground feel these give. Honestly in cold weather I'll go the Merrells every time and in the summer I'll go every other day and go the Lunas for the nearly naked feeling.I dont think you can do much better then the Merrell for a minimalist running shoe.

5very impressed!
By Caitlin
This was my first pair of inov-8 shoes... and I have to say I was not disappointed. My dad is a long time trail runner and swears by this UK company... they arent retailed at many locations in the U.S., but thats why amazon and zappo's are amazing!About the shoe...I was looking for a lightweight minimalist type running sneaker, and I could not be happier with my finding! It is super light, I feel like I am running in slippers compared to my old aasics, and so far they seem very durable.I would advise ordering down a half size or so... I got the 7 in mens and I am usually a 9.5 or 10 in womens. They fit well, however my feet are a bit on the wide side so I do loosen the laces a little and then its fine. If you have VERY wide feet, I would no recommend, but to put in perspective I cannot even wear Nike they are so narrow, and these are fine. These shoes are a great transition shoe for someone looking to get into minimalist running/ pose method. (I started on this path after reading BORN TO RUN). They are not on the level of wearing the Bikram 5 Fingers, but they are minimally padded, low heel, lightweight, almost like racing flats but a bit sturdier so you can go on trails as well. Give em a try-but remember to take it slow if you are a new minimalist runner... basically don't do your normal runs, start off with a few miles once or twice a week at most and ice your legs after. You will use muscles you haven't used in a looong time! (if need be, do other runs with your old shoes to keep in shape. you will notice the difference right away as well!)Ice does wonders and I am building up strength myself.Hope this was helpful!

5THE BOMB
By Jason A. Morstein
I ordered these kicks because Jason Khalipa (Crossfit God) wears them (I use every product he endorses, see my MIR Weighted Vest review). I am so impressed with them! Right off the bat I will tell you, if you have extra wide feet these are probably not for you, however, Khalipa is a big guy and I am sure his feet are medium to wide and he never takes them off. There are no "cons" to this shoe, it is perfect in every way. They are light as a feather, very comfortable, extremely breathable, pretty as hell and affordable. I use these for many of the Crossfit workouts which include running, jump rope, box jumps, lunges, broad jumps etc. I used to be an Asics lover (still am). I have tried Under Armour, Nike, Brooks and Reebok and I kept coming back to Asics. That is until I found these. I can't see myself deviating to another company after wearing INOV-8 shoes. They are THE BOMB. For me, they were true to size, if anything, ever so slightly larger then typical american sizes. I wear a 10.5 in Asics, Brooks and Nikes, I ordered a 10.5 and they fit perfect. BUY THESE!

5Redefined what I look for in a shoe
By Max P Ernst
I read about Inov-8 in a Tim Ferriss's "The Four Hour Body" and became interested in the potential an improved type of shoe may have on my training. I began to look around the internet a little and found that most of this model was all sold out of my size,(11.5 UK sizes, 10.5 USA) so I decided to wait.Having just run my first marathon with my newly discovered "natural" fitting shoes in the form of the Vibram 5 finger, I was all-in for these new kinds of shoes . The Vibrams alleviated my knee pain I had experienced for the past 2+ years of running 100%. It seems that, due to the really thin sole, my foot hits the ground in a way in which my weight is evenly distributed across my knees, rather than an angle that places too much stress on the outsides of my knees. However, the Vibrams placed so much more pressure on my toes that I received a nagging calf injury, putting my running to a halt. I blame this mostly on my jumping into training with them too fast, rather than easing into the new style. My main critique of the Vibrams are that they are so odd looking they made me feel like an eccentric, and the inability to wear socks with them caused serious odor problems very fast. I didn't wanna be that guy with the weird, stinky shoes anymore. One day while searching for a solution in my local athletic shoe store, to my great great excitement, I ran across a the Inov-8 brand of shoes, though not exactly the model I was looking on. I tried them on for sizing purposes, and the shoes fit like a dream. I proceeded to go home that day and Immediately order this model in the same size I tried on at the store. The results have been ideal. The narrowness of the shoe and thinness of the soles, to me, are this shoe's bread and butter. I never realized I had a narrow foot until I bought these shoes... and they fit perfectly! However, I imagine they would not be so desirable to people with a wider foot. It seems to me the narrowness is mostly in the heel. Before you buy any Inov-8 shoe, I highly recommend trying on a pair first. Shoes aren't a big deal to send back, but it's kind of a hassle. These shoes were designed for trail running, and it shoes in the durability. I wear them to run, and around town, and the shoes are holding up great.Lastly, I've never gotten so many compliments about a shoe before these. Most people have never seen or heard of this brand. The blue and white really pops out at you, and the shape is much sleeker than any other shoe I've ever seen.In short-Buy if:1) You are looking for a stylish, durable shoe2) You have received an injury from running with "traditional" styles of shoes3) You run on pavement or trails... these shoes can do it all4) You want a heel that fits tight and never slidesDon't buy if:1) You have a wide foot.2) You are looking for a shoe with a ton of support... these shoes are minimalist.Performance, style, and 6 months later, I can speak for durability as well... this shoe has it all.

2New model a let down.
By Jared C. Donaldson
I bought a new pair of the ride 4 and it has been disappointing. the heel and outside edge of my whole shoe flattened out within the first weeks of having the shoe. The 3 was a great shoe for long distances and for neutral and mild protonators. I am a neutral toe runner and the prior version lasted for 4 marathons and training miles still. The new version has an uncomfortable upper and seems to have a more solid midfoot than front or heel.

5After trying many others, best overall trainer . . . .
By P. Lamoureux
I'm no professional runner or shoe critic, but I log a lot of miles every year and I've tried a bunch of shoes. After a few years of different brands and shoe styles, the Ride 4 is the hands-down winner, especially when price is factored.ABOUT ME: 49 years old, 165 lbs, neutral pronation, forefoot striker, 5-8 miles/run, 1500/year. Your results may vary if you pronate or heel-strike, I don't know. . ..Shoes I've tried: New Balance 760, 1080 and 890, Asics Gel Cumulus, Brooks Pure Connect, Saucony Kinvara 2, Nike Pegasus, Nike Zoom Vomero, Hoka One One, Vibram BikilaLast year I joined the "barefoot running" craze. After chronic injury (including a stress fracture) I became convinced the whole barefoot thing, for most runners, is a fad. At least to my 49 year old bones. Great running technique, just do it with some cushioned shoes. So I went back to a traditional running trainer like the Asics Cumulus and the Saucony Progrid Ride. Oh, and no 8mm heel-to-forefoot drop for me either, that's another marketing fad in my book and leads to nasty plantar fasciitis in my experience. Even the avid runners at my local running shoe store hate the 8mm drop. Hopefully manufacturers will realize this and return to, or continue making, a traditional 12mm drop like the Ride. Until then, get them while you can!Anyway, the Ride 4 is a middle of the road shoe. Not the lightest, but certainly not as heavy as other trainers. Cushioned, but not too much like the Vomero. Somewhat lively heel and retains its "springiness" longer than the New Balance, which is my major complaint with that brand. More durable and comfortable, by far, than the Kinvara (although I think they've improved that). Much better performance than the Pegasus. About the only thing that comes close is the ASICS Cumulus but, here's the kicker, the Ride 4 can be had for under 60 bucks! Such a deal! I've even found them on sale for under $40.I had about 275 miles on my first pair when I decided to retire them. To my surprise they weren't quite done yet but, at this price, why wait around for the indication it's time to change? By they way, they looked a lot better at this mileage than any other shoe I've mentioned, most of which were shot at the 200 mile mark. Many people talk about 350-500 miles for a pair of shoes but that's never worked for me.Running shoe brands make huge dollars preying on buyers who think their life is gonna change with the latest, greatest "feature". Don't waste your money. They're just shoes and, besides, all that technology eventually trickles down to mid-range models like the Ride, but the manufacturers don't brag about it because it would hurt their top-end sales. Save your money and enjoy the Ride!

5If you liked the ProGrid Ride 2s and 3s, you'll like these
By Michael Prinster
I'm a mild under-pronator and started wearing the ProGrid Ride 2s in 2010. They felt great and were very durable. I usually alternate between two pairs of shoes for my runs, the "old" pair getting up to 6 months old before I buy the "new" pair, then making the "old" pair into my yard shoes after a year, and my original Ride 2s from 2010 have been great yard shoes for over a year now and still going strong.I stayed with the Ride 2s for a while, and then tried the Ride 3s in 2011, and finally the Ride 4s in January 2012.The Ride 4's are visually more attractive, and also have a slightly wider toebox than the 3s and 2s, but offer the same support and out-of-the-box comfort that I have loved from the ProGrid Rides since the start.I have worn them to train for and run two marathons, a half marathon, and a couple of overnight relays, and they are a great all-around shoe for all distances.I recommend them as a good, neutral shoe, durable, yet light enough to wear year round. I wear them to run in Utah winters, and they do a great job even when it's snowy and cold outside.

5Great For Flat Footed Pronators
By TomWatson
I have run in the Brooks Addiction line since 1999 with one exception, and that was the only time I had a running injury. I am flat footed with a wide toe box, and I pronate like crazy, so this shoe fits me very well. I particularly like the current edition -- specifically the lace-up design lets me tighten the shoes around my foot very well without constricting my toes in any way. They run 1/2 to a full size small. I also like the appearance of the new line, but would love it if Brooks made some bolder color choices for this line like they do with their other shoes.

I have worn the Brooks Beast and they are excellent but I have a foot problem. So it takes a few days to get used to them. With the Brooks addiction 10, I can put them right on and take off walking. Hince the title Happy Feet!

5Great shoe
By M. Ferrell
For 20+ years I have worn the "Beast" by Brooks. Brooks changed the "Beast" and my toes were no longer comfortable in them. I tried the "Addiction 10" and I love the support and the fit. There is plenty of room in the toe. I recommend this product.

5Brilliant, start slow though!
By Mike Lovell
I was suffering from "runners knee" for about a week after I tried to run consistently for anything above about 15 minutes (at a steady 10:00 mpm pace). So basically I couldn't get up any kind of decent running schedule, so I started to look into barefoot running. I started walking my dog barefoot and working on strengthening my feet, and when my last bout of "runners knee" cleared up I started thinking about running. I didn't think my gym would allow barefoot treadmill running so I invested in a pair of Vibram's.First day at the gym and I started running and I'd reached the 15 minute mark and no knee trouble, so I kept going and upped the speed and did another 10 minutes. No pain at all. Now anyone who's started running in these knows what I'm going to say next! ...... They REALLY work your calf's because they force you to land on the balls of your feet (exactly as you should run) so about 2 days after my first run damn did I have DOMS in my calves, I was walking around like a croquet hoop! So friendly advice, start slow! After that initial adaption my calf muscles I was fine going forward. No more knee pain, I ran an hour for the first time yesterday (~5.5 miles), I'd have never been able to do that before.

5Great shoes!
By imperialsucka
I will never run in regular shoes again. I had REALLY bad shin splints for the last two years. One run in these and my shins didn't hurt at all. None. I almost teared up from the lack of pain. My calves were sore for about 3 weeks due to these shoes changing the way I run. Not painful, just sore. I've noticed that I am faster in these. I don't have a big stride anymore but lots of short steps that have cut 2 minutes off my 4 mile run time.I normally run 4 miles M/W/F and 2 miles on T/T. I LOVE these shoes. Never going to run in anything else again!

3A slight departure from the original.
By Linh
I found these to be a slight departure from the original five finger concept of "near barefoot running." The tread has become quite aggressive and there is almost what could be considered arch support. Additionally, because of two hot spots created by the internal stitching, I have to wear socks, which creates even more padding and road isolation than found in models like the original KSO and Sprint. The one saving feature that keeps me using them is that there is still no heel cushioning which means I still have to focus on barefoot running technique. They are pretty good for winter running though as long as conditions are dry. The material is warmer than my Sprints (which are my favorite model by far).
